Barnsley Football Club can confirm that Cameron Thompson has signed a new one-year contract extension at Oakwell.
The dynamic forward, who arrived in South Yorkshire in December 2020, impressed with our U23s side during the 20/21 Professional Development League campaign and featured amongst the substitutes a handful of times for the Reds’ senior set-up.
It was a productive six months for the 21-year-old, who netted seven goals in 16 outings for Martin Devaney’s side.
He has been with the first team throughout pre-season and looked lively in our friendly outings against Rochdale, Sheffield Wednesday, Morecambe and Manchester City.
“I’m very happy to have completed the deal,” said Thompson, speaking exclusively to iFollow Barnsley. “Coming in last year off the back of being out of a club and coming on trial with the under 23s and doing well, there was a lot of pressure on me – which I put on myself – and I think I’ve done well to come back and be offered a new contract on top of the first one and it’s a great feeling.
“The ultimate goal is to hopefully get in the team and help the team to do well, maybe look to make my debut and take it from there, score a few goals and do my part.”
Everyone at Oakwell would like to congratulate Cameron on his new deal!
