MARKUS SCHOPP ON BIRMINGHAM CLASH

26 August 2021

Our Head Coach helped us look ahead to Saturday's clash with Blues here at Oakwell.

ON PLAYER AVAILABILITY

“We are still without Mads Andersen and Carlton Morris of course, but it’s the same group of players available for us this weekend.

“It might be after the break for Mads, but Carlton, we are talking about six weeks or so.

“Aaron Leya Iseka and Obbi Oularé are still not available for the weekend, but we have good news on Obbi, that he now has his visa. But we’re still looking at after the international break for him because they’re going to take time in terms of fitness.

“But it’s positive news, and hopefully we get the same news on Aaron too shortly. We have two really nice, really quality players coming to help us. But there’s still work to do, as there is with all of my players, that’s my job.”

ON THE TRANSFER WINDOW

“If we have guys who aren’t going to be getting playing time for us, we will look to find something for them. We will speak with the guys, we will look after our players,

“In terms of incomings, there’s nothing I can speak about right now. There’s a lot of negotiation to finalise, and when things are done, we will communicate that.

“We are looking at a left-sided player and a solution in the centre of the field. I won’t be giving any names or anything, let’s wait and see and then we can talk about them.”

LESSONS FROM QPR

“We took two things from QPR. Just like in other games, we aren’t clinical enough. This has been a big problem. We need to take our chances more. Put games to bed. But it’s naivety I feel. We need to be more clever.

“It was far too easy for the opponent to get back into a game that they had no right to be in.

“It’s not just a question of age and experience. It’s mentality. And it’s my job as a coach in the aftermath to explain things, to guide my players and let them know where we can improve as individuals and as a team.

“It’s a process, and we will find solutions and then the results will come from that.”

ON BIRMINGHAM CITY

“They’re a very good team with a lot of good players, a lot of experience. They are the total opposite of us in terms of what I was saying about naivety.

“They do everything together. It’s a really tough opponent for us who had a really good result last weekend at Luton and we know we have to be at our very best to get a result on Saturday.

“But we’ve worked hard all week to find the answers and we’ll have a plan to win this game.”
