OBBI OULARÉ ON CARDIFF CITY TRIP

5 August 2021

We've got the thoughts of one of our new signings ahead of Saturday's season-opener in the Welsh capital.

ON JOINING THE REDS

“It’s been so far so good, I’ve been training the last couple of days and I’m excited to get started now. It’s an exciting club with lots of good, young players and I’ve watched the club from afar since January.

“I had some family issues and then an injury so I couldn’t come here in January, but it was really nice that the club here still wanted me and it was a very easy decision for me to make when they contacted me again this summer. It makes you feel good, to be wanted. Mr Conway was so keen to bring me here and I want to repay everyone’s faith in me."

ON CARDIFF CITY

“They are a big team, I’ve watched some videos of Cardiff and there’s clearly going to be a lot of long balls, lots of aerial challenges. I’ve done my research on them!

“I know it’s going to be tough, it’s a physically demanding league but I have watched a lot of the division and I’m confident I can cope with it."

AMBITIONS FOR THE SEASON

"It will be a big challenge but it’s one we are all looking forward to. I’m coming here hoping to help the team, to help the younger guys and pass on my experience.

“I was 19-years-old when I last came, and it was a hard time, my first move outside Belgium but I took a lot from it. It’s a case of mixed feelings, but everything in life isn’t easy. I suppose I can prove some people wrong this time around. I’m not a kid anymore.

“There are lots of good players, lots of great forwards here, and that’s how it should be. Whoever does the best for Barnsley will play, and that is my new challenge. I’m confident I can succeed here.

“I’m a target man, I’m strong and can hit a powerful shot. I think I can do well, and have the ambition to move us forward as a club. The Premier League is the goal, it has to be."

ON SETTLING IN AND FANS RETURNING

“It’s definitely helpful that Aaron (Leya Iseka) is here also, he’s someone I know well, we have played together and against each other. We can adapt a lot easier being here together, and I have my family here with me and the people here at the club are always helping us too.

“I love stadiums being full, it’s great to have fans back. In England the fans are so close and I know they are very passionate the Barnsley fans. So I’m excited to play for them."
