JASPER MOON POST-BOLTON WANDERERS

11 August 2021

Fresh from his first 90 minutes of football for Barnsley, Jasper Moon said he was pleased with his overall performance against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday evening.

The young defender played on the right of a back three and went about his business with consummate ease, showing excellent composure in several situations as he implemented Markus Schopp’s philosophy of playing out from the back.

“I thought my performance was OK,” discussed Moon, speaking to iFollow Barnsley. “I should have won a few more of my headers, but I think first half I was good and, on the ball, I could have maybe been a bit quicker. Overall, I think it was an alright performance.”

It is only the second time our academy graduate has played in front of a raucous crowd in his Barnsley career, having made his appearances last season behind closed doors.

However, he relishes the occasion and put in a mature display against the Trotters in front of a partisan home support and, where some younger players may crumble, he grasped the opportunity with both hands.

“When playing in front of a big crowd like this and a good atmosphere, inside it just feels really good and makes me happy all the time,” continued the 20-year-old.

“Whereas last year and under 23s football, there’s not really a crowd and nothing to get you going. When you hear the away fans as well, it gets me going and I really enjoy it.

“It’s more like a real game. So, if you make a mistake, you know you’ve made a mistake. If you’ve done something well, you know you’ve done something well. It’s that pressure, but I like the pressure.”
