With our first game of the 21/22 Sky Bet Championship campaign just around the corner, we caught up with new signing, Josh Benson, on the training ground.
Barnsley head to Cardiff City to get the ball rolling for the new season and our midfielder believes that he and his teammates can emulate the success of last term.
“Everyone is confident and we believe,” asserted Benson. “We’re confident in ourselves that we can achieve what we did last season or maybe better.
“I’m excited; I can’t wait to finally play and play in front of fans – that’s if I’m playing. I don’t know the squad yet, but hopefully I am.
“It’s been strange without fans. I played in League Two with fans and got a taste for it and loved every minute of it. So, I’m excited for the fans to come back.”
Our last trip to South Wales was a largely forgettable outing as the Bluebirds claimed a 3-0 victory at the start of November.
The two sides then played out a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture in what was one of the more physical encounters en route to securing a place in the play-offs.
Benson feels that the Reds can implement their style in the game and that they can leave the Cardiff City Stadium with all three points.
“We’re prepared for anything; we know what Cardiff bring and we’ve just got to be prepared for that,” continued our midfielder.
“We’re going to get playing fast football and hopefully we can get a result on Saturday.”
He spent the last 15 minutes of the session practicing free-kicks along with fellow new recruit, Aaron Leya Iseka, and Clarke Oduor.
More often than not, the 21-year-old found the target and he says he is ready to step-up and assume responsibility if the opportunity presents itself this weekend.
“I’ll always fancy myself; I’m always practicing,” he smiled.
