CARLTON MORRIS POST-ROTHERHAM

25 April 2021

Match-winner Carlton Morris says the team’s togetherness was crucial to see off a spirited Rotherham United side at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds perhaps weren’t at their best against the Sky Bet Championship strugglers, but showed their mettle throughout a difficult encounter to come away will all three points and take one step closer to securing a play-off spot.

“I think it says a lot about our character and the atmosphere in the dressing room amongst the lads to come together when the performance wasn’t really there, to come away with the result,” insisted Morris.

“It’s the sign of a good team when the performance isn’t there if you’re able to get three points against, in my opinion, a good side. Credit to Rotherham, they put up a good fight and thankfully we’ve come away with a result.”

The game’s solitary goal came in the opening couple of minutes as Morris rose highest to power home Michał Helik’s far post header from a well-worked corner routine, colliding with United ‘keeper Viktor Johansson in the process.

Barnsley have seen several similar efforts chalked off this term – moments that have been decisive – and Morris admits it was nice to see one go our way for a change.

“I was a little bit concerned; you know what it’s like these days – those goals can be seen as contentious,” continued the forward. “But the ball was there to be challenged for and I thought I’d get up and give it a go.

“It’s swings and roundabouts, really. Some of them are given, some of them aren’t, but it’s been frustrating having a lot of them ruled out, so it’s nice to have that one count.”
