VALÉRIEN ISMAËL POST-LUTON

6 April 2021

Speaking after our 2-1 victory against Luton Town, Valérien Ismaël praised his side for their efforts as they became the first Barnsley team in our magnificent 134-year history to win six successive away games.

Goals from Daryl Dike in either half were enough to seal all three points for the Reds, who controlled the encounter virtually from start to finish at Kenilworth Road on Easter Monday.

“We made history with six wins in a row,” declared Ismaël. “It was a professional performance and we were really focused to get the points; we had everything under control until the penalty and, after, we conceded and then it was another game but we did very well with the situation.

“I was never worried about losing the three points, but you never know in the Championship – it’s such a tough league – but we continue to move forward. I think it’s a great feeling to show a reaction after the loss against Sheffield Wednesday and the draw against Reading.

“With this win, we continue to move forward; 68 points is massive. We have six game left and we can prepare for the next one.”

It has been a tremendous run of form for the Reds since losing to Watford in mid-January, with just one defeat in 15 outings and a staggering 34 points collected in that period.

No other team in the Sky Bet Championship has amassed more points since then and there is a real hunger in the dressing room to stay on this upwards trajectory as the season draws to a close.

“We have to keep going, we want to keep going; we are determined to get the job done,” asserted Ismaël.

“We want to stay where we are and continue to move forward on the table, but you need all the time a big performance and the mentality, desire and focus from the guys was exactly what you need to stay where we are.”
