CALLUM BRITTAIN POST-BORO

11 April 2021

After helping the Reds to another crucial win on Saturday afternoon, Callum Brittain says he wants to continue providing goals for his teammates.

Our flying wing-back has been sensational this season since arriving from MK Dons and put the ball on a plate for Daryl Dike to power home the killer goal to double the lead against Middlesbrough.

“I just want to contribute as much as I can,” insisted Brittain. “If the assists can keep coming, it’ll be nice, but the gaffer definitely wants me to keep crossing it – he’s made that clear – so I just need to keep going.

“When the strikers are constantly getting in the right areas and making the right runs, you’ve got the belief to put the ball in a certain area, so it makes it that little bit easier.”

The victory saw Barnsley consolidate their place in the top six and move five points clear of seventh place Reading as the race for the play-offs hots up.

Brittain believes the togetherness within the squad has played a major part all season and can be a decisive factor to help edge tough encounters against the likes of Boro.

“It’s really important,” attested the 23-year-old. “We’re five points clear now and it was a really good Middlesbrough side, so to get the win after a flat first half and come out and play the way we did in the second half was important.

“It shows the team spirit within the dressing room and whether it’s 0-0 or 1-0 down, we’re always in the game and believe we can win.”
