MADS ANDERSEN POST-COVENTRY

19 April 2021

Speaking after our 2-0 loss against Coventry City at the weekend, Mads Andersen says the first half display from Barnsley wasn’t good enough.

There was a lack of intensity from the Reds as they succumbed to defeat at St. Andrew’s and, despite an improved performance after the break, they were unable to salvage anything from a disappointing encounter.

“I think we came out bad in the first 10 or 15 minutes,” admitted Andersen. “They won almost all the second balls and we didn’t really put any pressure on them – we only had one shot on goal – but the second half was much better.

“We needed some energy. We weren’t 100% and then you lose games in the Championship.

“I believe in every one of my teammates and I believe they will give 100% every time they go out there, but this is football; the opponent did a good job.”

Up next for the Reds is a short trip to Huddersfield Town, who moved eight points clear of the drop zone with a 2-0 victory at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Barnsley won the corresponding fixture on Boxing Day thanks to a dramatic Michał Helik strike, and Andersen is confident that he and his teammates have the character to respond to this setback.

“It’s important that we bounce back and we will, 100%,” asserted the Danish centre-back. “I’m not worried about that. We will react.”
