JORDAN WILLIAMS TARGETING REACTION

13 September 2020

Following our 1-0 defeat against Luton Town on Saturday afternoon, Jordan Williams insists the Reds are eager to put that game behind them and look ahead to the rest of the campaign.

Barnsley were undone by James Collins’ second half strike as the Hatters left Oakwell with all three points for the second consecutive season, but our versatile defender is already targeting a reaction – starting with Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.

“It was tough for us; they came here with a game plan and stuck to it,” began Williams. “We need to stick to our game plan and play out from the back, but it was tough. We need to learn from the long balls and we’ll go again on Tuesday.”

Despite not getting off to the ideal start, it is important to remember the journey this young team has been on to reach this stage – particularly over the past few months.

The Reds showed incredible resolve to pull off the great escape in a season that started with a win over eventual play-off winners Fulham, and there will be plenty of twists and turns before the campaign reaches its conclusion in May.

“It’s the first game of the season,” continued Williams. “Last season we won the first game, then we went 17 games without a win, so we’ll definitely bounce back and we’ll go again on Tuesday. Then, come Saturday, we’ll go to Reading and hopefully pick up three points there and show that we’re up for a fight.”
