VALÉRIEN ISMAËL PRE-WATFORD

30 October 2020

Speaking ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash against Watford on Saturday, Valérien Ismaël says he is confident in Barnsley’s ability to compete with the division’s so-called ‘bigger clubs’.

The Hornets, recently relegated from the top flight, perhaps pose one of the biggest threats this term and have lost just once in their opening eight fixtures.

“It’s a big challenge,” began the Reds Head Coach. “Watford is one of the best teams in the Championship with very high quality, with Premier League players in the squad. We need the mentality; we need our intensity to work for each other as a team.

“We know, if we work together, we can beat everyone in this league; anyone can beat anyone and that’s why we believe in our capabilities, our strength and what we can do on the field.”

Ismaël will be hoping that Barnsley can pick up where they left off on Tuesday evening, where it looked as though they were going to run riot against 10-man Queens Park Rangers at Oakwell.

The Reds are in good form, having picked up six points from their previous four outings, but this weekend’s clash will be a real test of their credentials against a Watford side that have conceded just four goals in the league this season.

“The win on Tuesday was very important and we are now four games in a row without a defeat, so it’s good for the confidence and gives us a belief in our game,” continued Ismaël.

“We have big opponents in front of us but we are ready to take the fight and take the chance in this game. We know that we can give a lot of problems for Watford and, for the young guys, it’s a big chance to show what they can do.”
