CALLUM BRITTAIN READY FOR CHALLENGE

15 October 2020

New signing Callum Brittain says he is eager to test himself at a higher level having made the switch from MK Dons.

The full-back, who arrived at Oakwell last Friday, has enjoyed his first week training with his new teammates and believes he is well-suited to the Reds’ philosophy.

“I wanted to play at a higher level,” asserted Brittain. “I know a few things about Barnsley and the style they play; it’s a young group so it really intrigued me and I wanted to come here and test myself.

“I want to play games at a higher level. The style that Barnsley play really suits me with wing-backs bombing on and the high press, so that was the main topic for discussion that really intrigued me to come here.

“I spoke with Adam [Murray] when I came in and he explained how we played and how I fit into everything. The lads have been really good to me and I’ve enjoyed my first couple of days here.

“Training has been really good and the lads are in good spirits, so I’ve settled in really well and the lads have been a good part of that.”

Former Barnsley favourite George Williams was a teammate of Brittain’s at Stadium MK since 2016 – while both also came through the ranks at the Dons.

And Williams has given rave reviews about the Reds to Callum, who is raring to showcase what he can do at Oakwell and make a name for himself in South Yorkshire.

“I spoke to him when the interest got out; he said it’s a great place to be with really nice people and supportive fans so, after speaking to him, I was pretty much sold,” he continued.

“I’m really excited for it; there’s a lot of big teams in the Championship and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a big challenge, definitely, but I’m ready to go.”
