20-year-old forward joins from Celtic with a loan move to a Sky Bet League Two outfit pending.
Barnsley Football Club has today completed the signing of Scottish youth international striker Jack Aitchison.
Arriving at Oakwell on a three-year deal after leaving Scottish giants Celtic FC, Jack will immediately link up with a League Two club on a season-long loan deal, with the option to recall him in January.
Aitchison shot to prominence at Celtic Park when at just 16-years-old he scored on his Celtic debut, with his first touch in a 7-0 victory over Motherwell four years ago.
The youngster made a handful of further appearances for Celtic before loan spells with Alloa Athletic (2018/19) and last season in League Two with Forest Green Rovers. Able to play up front or as a number 10, Jack bagged himself seven goals and numerous assists in 32 appearances for FGR.
Set to continue his development at that level, Aitchison was delighted to put pen to paper at Oakwell until 2023.
"I was excited to get down here and get the deal done. As soon as I knew there was a chance of coming to Barnsley, I didn't have to think twice.
"This is a good club where I know I'll be able to improve and develop my game."
Chief Executive Officer, Dane Murphy was pleased to add another talented youngster to the squad.
"Jack is a real talent and we’re delighted to have secured his services. He comes with real pedigree, having progressed through the Celtic academy set-up and is hungry to prove himself in England.
“We have no doubt that Jack will play a significant role at Oakwell in the near future, but right now it is vital for his continued development that he plays regular football.
“Jack will spend a period of time in League Two, but we will monitor his progress closely.”
