Following our 1-0 defeat against Brentford on Tuesday evening, Jack Walton has emphasised the importance of bouncing back from this result.
The Reds have been in decent form over the past few weeks since Valérien Ismaël arrived in South Yorkshire, winning four of the Frenchman’s six games in charge and our goalkeeper believes there wasn’t much between the two sides at Oakwell.
“It was a game of fine margins; that’s what happens in this division,” began Walton. “A set-piece has won the game and we’re obviously disappointed but games come thick and fast – we’ve got another one on Saturday and we need to bounce back.
“At the end of the day, Brentford are a good side and we respected that. I thought we were really good; we were disciplined and defended well and, like I said, it was fine margins.”
Perhaps one positive to take from the encounter was how difficult Barnsley were to break down over the course of the 90 minutes.
As Walton has already alluded to, a set-piece ultimately proved to be our undoing as we limited a very strong Brentford team to very few chances.
It has been a common theme under Ismaël, and the 21-year-old is pleased with how well the Reds have adjusted to life under their new Head Coach.
“We’ve kept clean sheets since he’s come in, worked hard and adapted to his style of play and everyone has bought into it,” continued Walton. “We’re disappointed not to win but, overall, we were on a good run but there’s another game and we need to bounce back straight away.”
