Speaking after our defeat against Cardiff City, Matty James believes it is important to look at the positives from the Reds’ recent run of form as oppose to the game in South Wales.
Barnsley, who have performed excellently over the past few weeks, lost for the first time in six outings against the Bluebirds and our on-loan midfielder is eager to see the side bounce back.
“It was a disappointing game but, as the gaffer mentioned, it’s a process that this club and team is going through – we’re not going to win every game or get something from every game so I think, for us, it’s a learning process,” said James.
“We’ve created a lot of chances over the last couple of games and scored goals. I think it was a little bit frustrating at times with the way they set up; they gave us more time on the ball and not so much space in behind that we needed to be more patient in certain aspects of it, but we’ll look at it and learn from it.”
Up next for Barnsley is a trip to Derby County on Saturday, another team who are struggling to find form in the opening stages of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.
It comes before the next international break, which is then preceded by the traditional festive fixture pile-up where it is easy to hit a purple patch and climb the table.
“If you look at the first four games before I came here, we had one point on the board,” continued James. “Looking at it back then, it was disappointing and now it’s our first defeat in six, so you’ve got to balance it out.
“The form that’s been shown is a positive sign and the chances we’ve created is a positive sign; this happens in football where an early goal goes against you and you maybe don’t get the performance you were after.
“We’ll move on; there’s a lot of games coming up – the schedule is busy and there’s always a game to turn it around.”
