Following our 3-0 defeat against Cardiff City on Tuesday evening, Valérien Ismaël spoke of the importance of putting that game behind us and focussing on the next task at hand.
Barnsley were comprehensively beaten by the Bluebirds, with goals from Junior Hoilett, Joe Ralls and Harry Wilson settling the contest in South Wales.
“I think it was not enough to pretend to win the game,” began the Reds’ Head Coach. “There were a lot of situations where we lost the ball too early and, for our strikers, it was difficult to keep the ball and that’s why in the first 30 minutes it was only one-way football for Cardiff. We needed 40 minutes to come into the game.
“Now we have to be focussed on the next game on Saturday; it’s a learning process for us to see what we need and we have to recover. I hope we get some injured players back for the game on Saturday.”
The loss brought to an end a decent run of form for Barnsley, who had won two and drawn three of their previous five fixtures heading into the midweek clash.
Up next for Ismaël and his team is a trip to Derby County, where a positive result prior to the international break would do wonders for confidence, particularly as we embark on a hectic festive schedule.
“Even when you win, you don’t have time to enjoy because you have to be focussed on the next game,” continued the Frenchman. “This is the same situation.
“For sure, we are disappointed about the result but, when you see the performance, it wasn’t good enough. That’s why we have to accept this and we are already focussed on the next game on Saturday. We want to show another attitude and performance, and we will do it.”
