After netting his first Sky Bet Championship goal, Victor Adeboyejo expressed his gratitude at Head Coach, Valérien Ismaël following our 2-0 victory over Derby County on Saturday.
The striker was introduced 13 minutes from time at Pride Park and, within a matter of moments, doubled Barnsley’s lead with a magnificent curling effort to round off a fine team move that already might take some beating in our November Goal of the Month competition.
“I want to thank God, because it’s something that I’ve held onto during this period because it’s been up and down,” began Adeboyejo, speaking exclusively with iFollow Barnsley.
“To get that opportunity from the manager and coaching staff, to repay the trust that they’ve given to me I can’t put into words. So I want to say thank you to them and the players as well because it feels great.”
Loan spells away from Oakwell at Bristol Rovers and Cambridge United didn’t quite provide the platform from which to build for the 22-year-old.
But anyone who watched him in his early Reds career, progressing through our U23s system, will know that Adeboyejo is clinical in front of goal, and his predatory instinct has clearly caught the eye of Ismaël.
“Since I’ve been at Barnsley, I’ve enjoyed working with the players so, when I was on loan it felt a bit different,” continued the powerful forward.
“But to be back with the players that I have around me; the quality that’s around me is just set up for me to show what I can do and, again, the manager has obviously taken a liking to me and given me an opportunity so it’s just set up for me to express myself.”
“As a striker, you’re judged on goals and, of course, every game I want to score and make an impact. Over the past few seasons it may not have been like that, but I just focus on the next one and try to put it right in the next game. Thankfully, this opportunity came around and I took it.”
