VE Day 2020

7 May 2020

Friday May 8, 2020 marks 75 years since VE Day (Victory in Europe Day).

VE Day is the day guns fell silent across Europe in 1945. Years of pain had come to an end and millions of people took to the streets and pubs to celebrate peace, mourn their loved – ones and to hope for the future.

Members of the Barnsley FC family will follow the nation with a two-minute silence from 11am, honouring the brave men and women who suffered during wartime, in hope for a better future for all.

Again, at 3pm, the Club will join ‘The Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of World War Two’. Please join from your homes and do as Winston Churchill did in 1945, raise a glass and say: “To those who gave so much, we thank you.”

Despite the current lockdown, Barnsley Council invites supporters to join the local community in both celebrating and remembering such a grand moment in British history. A full day of celebration and activity is planned. Visit the Barnsley Council website for more information.
