Stuck at home and fancy the chance of winning a prize through writing? This competition could be for you!
What is this?
Free to enter and open to all junior sports fans, we want to know why you love your sport, and why you support your team!
We want to see your writing flair, to hear your stories and to read your memories. So, if you can describe your passion on paper, you could win a fabulous prize!
But what exactly are you writing? Well, take some inspiration:
We’ve got a lot of examples, but we’re asking you to either re-watch your favourite match or use your imagination and create a fantasy match, before writing a report on it.
Why do you love your sport?
Did your parents take you to Oakwell for the first time? Did a school teacher inspire you to participate in a particular sport? Everyone is unique. Everybody has a story about how they were introduced to sport. We want to hear it.
Time to get creative
Sport is magical, where the unexpected is always a possibility.
Get creative, use your imagination and come up with a brilliant story! Could you write about England’s journey to the World Cup Final in 2022? Or perhaps tell us a story about how despite still being in school, you are Barnsley FC’s star striker and your goals fire Barnsley to the Champions League!
Poem or rhyme
Enlighten us with a poem, share your story in the form as a rhyme. Don't worry about meeting the word-count here!
Feel free to attach an illustration/drawing to compliment your writing.
How to enter
Whilst the competition is primarily for children, we have four categories, and we'll have a winner from each category.
1. 6 – 11 year olds
2. 12 – 15 year olds
4. Best illustration
We ask that you follow the guidelines above. Your writing doesn’t need to be specific to football, but sport in general, it doesn’t have to be true, but must be your own work!
Please try and keep your entry between 350 – 500 words.
Closing date is 30 April 2020, 3pm.
To submit your entry, please attach your story to an email and send to ‘email@example.com’. Please put ‘Write for the Reds’ as the subject.
Emails must be sent by adults. Also, we must know your name, your age on 30 April 2020. By sending an email and entering the competition you will agree with our terms and conditions.
A number of our best entries will be published on our website (www.barnsleyfc.co.uk) for all to read. However, the overall winners will be contacted on Monday 4 May 2020.
Winners of each category will be awarded with the following:
- A signed Barnsley FC football.
- A £20 book voucher
- Barnsley FC notepad and pen
Enjoy, stay safe and good luck!
