Gerhard Struber previews game against Bluebirds

6 March 2020

Ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Cardiff City, Gerhard Struber gave us his pre-match thoughts.

Reds Head Coach, Gerhard Struber is confident that a full week to prepare and having done the necessary homework on Saturday's opponents, that his Barnsley side can get back to winning ways this weekend.

He is, however, aware of the dangers posed by the visiting Bluebirds.

“Cardiff is a very difficult opponent." Struber explained.

"Especially in the set-pieces and throw-ins, they're strong and I think for us, this is a big job on Saturday. We know this is a big threat from Cardiff and we worked this week so that we are ready.”

The Reds were defeated in the 94th minute of the first meeting of the two sides, back in December.

That 3-2 loss isn't something the boss needed reminding of.

He told us: “I can remember this painful situation in Cardiff – I had pain in my whole body on the way home. It was a disappointing moment, but we have developed our mental state since then and the boys can bring more 'faces' in games when opponents play in that manner.”

Struber spoke of the positive mood in camp this week despite the Reds' first defeat in four games last time out in Reading.

He hopes that his team and the Reds supporters put on a show this Saturday.

“I think the mood is very good in the team; we have a very good spirit and this is a very good feeling. Sometimes, when you see a team after Birmingham, I have to bring my energy into the boys and bring a good feeling but, right now, it’s not necessary – the boys believe. We hope we can win on Saturday against a big opponent and we know what we have to do. We hope we can create for our fans a big game and a big performance.”
