Club Statement: Coronavirus

6 March 2020

In line with a confirmed Covid-19 (novel coronavirus) case in South Yorkshire, Barnsley FC have put a number of measures in place across Oakwell to help prevent the spread of the virus, whilst protecting the health of supporters, players and staff.

All staff have been reminded of good hygiene practices, whilst health disclaimer forms have been created for all external visitors visiting both Oakwell offices and dressing room areas. Prior to kick-off, both the ‘Fair Play handshake’ and pre-match photo with match sponsors will not take place. Unfortunately, players will be unable to shake hands or pose for pictures with supporters, with scheduled player visits to the FanZone postponed.

Also, in-keeping with Club policy, all visitors (mascots, non-Barnsley FC staff) entering sensitive areas of Oakwell are to adhere to the personal health disclaimer.

Supporters planning on attending Saturday’s match at Oakwell should note that hand sanitisers have been placed in key areas, whilst further soap dispensers have been added to all washrooms. Information and best practices will also be shared, reinforcing guidance from the NHS.

Supporters displaying symptoms that are consistent with the virus are advised to familiarise themselves with the NHS’s advice on self-isolation and not attend the fixture. If supporters begin to develop symptoms aligned with Covid-19, they are to urgently alert the closest steward.

Barnsley FC will continue to seek advice from the relevant authorities and will update supporters with further developments.
