Michael Sollbauer reacts to defeat against Reading

Post-match thoughts of Reds defender

1 March 2020

Michael Sollbauer refused to be downbeat following yesterday's first defeat in four away at Reading.

The Reds were beaten 2-0 at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday afternoon, punished for a rather stale performance despite creating a number of good opportunities.

A goal in each half for the Royals saw them to a rare victory as they sat back and frustrated a profligate Barnsley side who seemed to run short of both ideas and energy.

Sollbauer remained confident when he spoke post-match, however.

“We are disappointed because of the result," he told us.

"Our performance was not really that bad but it wasn’t good enough to take points, and that's our own fault. We gave them a silly goal, we should clear this ball. We made good chances to score the equaliser and we tried everything to score but we go home without points.

"But sometimes it is like this. We aren't getting down after one slip.

“I told the team this directly after the game that there is no reason to have heads down. We won three of the last four games with three clean sheets. We can’t give up or put our heads down because we can turn next Saturday into a good mood again .

"I know that we will take points in the next games.”

The Austrian signed in the January transfer window has grown with each performance since his arrival and he told us he's enjoyed every minute so far, speaking glowingly about the club, the people involved and of course the Reds supporters.

"I am enjoying it here with Barnsley. I was excited to get the chance to move here and so far it's all that I expected. There are very good people here, everyone is together.

"I knew the challenge ahead and I believe 100% that it's going to be successful.

"When you know where you've gone wrong, when you know where to improve, this is much better for us because it's all in our hands.

"We have ten games remaining and these are like finals now.

"We will continue to play our game and hopefully we put another winning run together and keep giving ourselves the best chance to stay in the league."
