Update: Coronavirus

12 March 2020

With the continued threat of Covid-19 (novel coronavirus), Barnsley FC have put a number of restrictions in place ahead of first team and academy games scheduled to take place across the coming weekend.

At the time of writing, Gerhard Struber’s first team are set to visit Queens Park Rangers and the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Measures established prior to the Sky Bet Championship fixture against Cardiff City will remain in place, meaning players will be unable to physically interact with supporters.

Friday’s U23s’ fixture against Bolton Wanderers, at Oakwell, will take place, as will Saturday’s U18s’ development squad fixture against Sheffield Wednesday. However, please note that they will be played at Oakwell behind closed doors. No parents, spectators or outside agencies will be allowed to attend.

Due to current movement restrictions, all other junior fixtures, including the U16s’ game against Sheffield Wednesday and Reds In The Community programmes will be postponed until further notice.

Supporters displaying symptoms that are consistent with the virus are advised to familiarise themselves with the NHS’s advice on self-isolation. If supporters begin to develop symptoms aligned with Covid-19, they are to call 111 and seek advice.

Barnsley FC will continue to liaise with relevant authorities and will update supporters with further developments.
