Barnsley FC are delighted to announce that Barnsley FC Ladies will be entering an official team into the open age section of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Women’s and Girls’ League for the 2020/21 season.
With over 160 juniors already registered, the formation of an open age side allows for a clear pathway into competitive senior football.
Whilst the transition will not be straightforward, the move permits further development of young local talent at Oakwell, a principle that has been fundamental to Barnsley FC for decades.
Reds Chief Executive Officer, Dane Murphy, has played an active role in permitting this expansion and believes the news reinforces the Club’s commitment to the community and in particular, grassroots sport.
Speaking exclusively to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk, Murphy said: “The partnership exists to give young ladies within our community the opportunity to enjoy and develop in the game they love, whilst providing a platform to represent Barnsley FC in a competitive setting.
“The team behind Barnsley FC Ladies have established a strong junior section and naturally, creating a new senior side is the next logical step. We are excited for this expansion, and look forward to welcoming new players from across the borough into the Club.”
More details will be announced regards open trials in the coming weeks.
