Ahead of our trip to Stoke City this weekend, Gerhard Struber has stressed the importance of maintaining a positive mentality as Barnsley aim to continue their fine run of form since returning from lockdown.
The Reds have collected seven points from a possible nine available, while keeping three clean sheets in the process to boost their survival hopes and move within touching distance of safety.
“The last games, especially the last game against Blackburn, gave everyone the right feeling,” insisted Struber. “From the other side, everyone can bring a very good performance and, in the end, we had a very good result.
“We need the points and this is, for everyone a very good feeling – everyone goes home in a good mood and we look forward with a big belief in the game style, belief in themselves and that everyone has the right motivation trigger. At the moment, we make a very good job with a very good spirit in the team and this is key at the moment.
“The players understand what we need on the field and they work so outstanding at the moment and we need to focus on the next game. We work step by step every game and I think this is the key for success and also that we show, together with our supporters, to come with a good energy and good mood that we always bring a high intensity on the field.
“Right now we are in the relegation zone; we have six games for our chance with big challenges, especially when I think to Saturday – the players at Stoke have been in the Premier League and this is a big challenge for us. But we have a good mood, a good spirit and I hope for the right plan.”
Momentum is likely to be crucial as we enter the final stages of the campaign, with games against rivals at the foot of the table set to come thick and fast over the next few days.
Our clash with the Potters is followed by a trip to Luton Town before we host Wigan Athletic next Saturday, and a positive return from these fixtures could prove to be decisive when the season draws to a close.
“The last three games gave everyone the right conviction and everyone knows it’s the right time to climb out of the relegation zone,” continued the Reds’ Head Coach.
“From the one side we have very good games behind us with a very good feeling; we have three clean sheets and we have seven points in three games. From the other side we have a big goal and it’s a big power source for everyone.”
