It has been a positive return to action for the Reds, who have registered seven points from a possible nine to boost their survival hopes.
Our defensive performances have perhaps attracted the most praise – and rightly so – but it is worth noting how clinical our forwards have been under pressure.
The three goals scored in June could prove to be crucial when the campaign draws to a close on 22 July, and they were all brilliant in their own individual ways.
Below are your nominations for June’s Goal of the Month.
GOAL A – ELLIOT SIMOES vs QUEENS PARK RANGERS
Our young forward notched his second goal of a breakthrough campaign as he latched onto Ben Williams’ perfectly weighted through ball. The move owed much to Cauley Woodrow’s clever stepover in the build-up, but Simoes showed magnificent composure to confidently slot beyond the onrushing Liam Kelly inside seven minutes at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
GOAL B – CONOR CHAPLIN vs BLACKBURN ROVERS
We ran out of superlatives to describe this goal on our Twitter feed, such was the brilliance from start to finish. Not long had passed since Chaplin and Kilian Ludewig had been introduced from the bench before the pair combined. First, Mads Andersen played a raking cross-field ball, which the young German full-back brought down on his chest before firing an unerring cross on the half-volley, straight onto the head of Chaplin who crashed it home off the upright. You’ll be hard pressed to see many better.
GOAL C – JACOB BROWN vs BLACKBURN ROVERS
After bombarding the visitors’ goal for much of the second half, Barnsley finally got their rewards with a second goal courtesy of our ‘Star Man’. It was a swift and clinical counter-attack, and Brown was able to apply the finishing touches to Alex Mowatt’s sensational through ball as he slid it beyond Christian Walton to double the Reds’ advantage.
