Dominant Reds have to wait and wait, but Patrick Schmidt is the last-gasp hero this Sunday afternoon!
Patrick Schmidt's injury-time goal made sure that the Reds' great escape act goes into the final week, as Barnsley earn a deserved victory in thieir final home game of the campaign.
Reds' Head Coach, Gerhard Struber had made two changes for the visit of Forest, with Luke Thomas and Marcel Ritzmaier brought back into the starting XI.
Once again the Reds were in full control of the game from the get-go, dominant throughout the entire first half but yet again, profligate in front of goal.
From a second minute Alex Mowatt shot that was parried away by ex-Reds 'keeper Jordan Smith, right up to the last minute of the half when Jacob Brown fluffed his lines when through on goal, it was all Barnsley, but without reward.
Thomas had a number of efforts, one in particular that smacked off the top of the crossbar, and another which Smith had to turn behind.
Conor Chaplin was impressive on the one-year anniversary of his arrival at the club, and he got in behind to rifle an effort just a foot wide from an acute angle.
It was incessant Reds pressure, but Forest did have one or two counter opportunities, with 20-goal striker Lewis Grabban dragging wide when through on goal early in the half.
HALF TIME: Barnsley 0-0 Forest
Struber brought on top scorer Cauley Woodrow at the break, but the game was much more competitive in the second period.
It was still the Reds dominating, but the chances weren't coming as frequent.
There was a debut for Matty Wolfe, who looked impressive in his cameo as he helped the Reds to regain the initiative, but it was fellow sub Schmidt who made the biggest of impacts.
With 94 minutes played, a scramble away from the Forest box was put back across goal and the Austrian stabbed home from a couple of yards out to send the relegation battle into a final day on Wednesday in Brentford.
