Gerhard Struber previews Robins trip

16 January 2020

Gerhard Struber is looking for Barnsley to approach the Sky Bet Championship trip to Bristol City in the same manner as they did their recent home clash against Huddersfield Town.

The Reds ground out a crucial 2-1 victory in the Yorkshire derby last weekend to move within one point of 21st place Stoke City, while also dragging the Terriers into a relegation scrap in the process.

However, Struber has expressed caution ahead of the journey to Ashton Gate, insisting that the Robins will be eager to bounce back from their FA Cup exit at the hands of League One Shrewsbury Town in midweek.

“I think Bristol City are a dangerous opponent now; they lost in the Cup and this is not easy for us,” said the Reds’ Head Coach. “We need a performance out of our comfort zone – especially when we play away. It’s not so easy for us to pick up points away and now I think it’s the right moment to create also a very good game and make a good performance.

“We need the same mentality like our last game and I am very hopeful that we can win in Bristol; we have a good momentum and a very good spirit in the team. With the right attitude and the right mentality, we will win in Bristol.”

Barnsley finally broke their away day hoodoo before Christmas with a memorable, dramatic win at Millwall thanks to Patrick Schmidt’s last-minute header.

Since then, Struber has seen his side keep a clean sheet at Swansea City, while also progressing to the FA Cup fourth round following a 3-1 victory at Crewe Alexandra.

“We remember Millwall where we had a big fight and I think this is good for our self-confidence, also the last game against Huddersfield – it’s good for our conviction to win games and it’s our next step to win in Bristol,” continued the Austrian. “We need to give all that we can and create a big performance.”
