Michael Sollbauer looks ahead to Addicks clash

31 January 2020

Michael Sollbauer is confident that Barnsley can retain their Sky Bet Championship status this season, insisting that the quality of his teammates will be enough to see them through.

The Reds travel to Charlton Athletic this weekend looking to close the gap to their hosts to three points and, in turn, drag the Addicks into a relegation scrap.

“Saturday is a really big game, but it’s not the last game and will not decide everything,” said Sollbauer. “We can make a really big step and it’s a challenge for us – especially after the last two games; we were not satisfied with them.

“We’ve prepared for the game and we will give everything, fight and play our game; we won’t change everything because we believe in our style.”

Victory for Barnsley in south London would provide a timely morale-boost for Sollbauer and co. as we enter the last third of the campaign.

The Austrian is under no illusion as to the magnitude of the task, but he believes that there are enough points up for grabs for the Reds to finish outside the bottom three come May.

“If you look at the table it is a big challenge, but I think the team is ready for it,” continued the defender. “They are talented guys with high quality. I think it’s a tough situation and I’m sure; I believe in it – it’s the reason why I’m here – I’m sure that we can go through the situation.

“There’s 17 games to go in the Championship; it’s a lot of points and we know that we have to take every point we can. We have a really big chance to stay in the league, it will be hard but I have a lot of confidence for this team.”
