Defender arrives on loan from Red Bull Salzburg until the summer.
We are delighted to announce that 19-year-old right-back Kilian Ludewig has joined Barnsley Football Club on loan for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.
Ludewig arrives from Red Bull Salzburg, who currently sit top of the Austrian Bundesliga table, without a loss this season in their 18 matches played.
An energetic, athletic and strong full-back, the German U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 international has the ability to operate on both sides, comfortably being able to impress on both his right and left foot.
Speaking to us following his arrival at the club, Kilian said: “I know the trainer here, Gerhard, he called me and asked for me to come. We have worked together before, this was important for me as I like his style and his discipline, we will work well together again.
“Barnsley is a very traditional club, I have been watching videos of the fans and I liked this. I enjoyed how the fans feel when Barnsley score, I like to watch the celebrations and it feels like a close connection. I am now excited to play my first game, it is a big game against a local team so we hope to win this game.”
After securing another one of his top targets for this window, Head Coach Gerhard Struber gave his thoughts to barnsleyfc.co.uk: “He is one of the biggest talents in German youth football, especially from the defence. He has a great mentality and wants to grow up with us, to continue learning his game. I have coached him before in FC Liefering and I have a lot of trust in him. He’s very quick, strong and also offers nice passes. He knows my style which is very important to us, so he will be able to offer competition for places in both our full-back places as he can play both sides.”
Barnsley Football Club’s CEO Dane Murphy, spoke to barnsleyfc.co.uk after landing another key target ahead of the Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield Town at Oakwell.
He said: “We would like to welcome Kilian to the club and are pleased he has chosen to take this step in joining Barnsley. He’s a young, very talented German youth international and it’s quite clear his career path is on an upward trajectory. It’s an important transfer to bolster the defensive group at a key time for us. The Head Coach is quite familiar with Kilian and he will suit the club’s style of play. We would like to thank Red Bull Salzburg for trusting us to further Kilian’s development and having the vision to see this as a mutually beneficial move for both clubs.”
