Gerhard Struber previews Owls visit

6 February 2020

Gerhard Struber wants Oakwell to be a cauldron atmosphere when Sheffield Wednesday visit in the South Yorkshire Derby on Saturday afternoon.

The Austrian praised Reds supporters following our victory over Huddersfield Town last month and he believes that the team is at its best when everyone at Grove Street pulls together.

“I think it’s a special game,” insisted Struber. “Sheffield Wednesday is a big name with a big history and many people at the club tell me it’s a special game and a special derby, and lots of fans from Sheffield will come.

“I hope that many people come to support my team; we need the Barnsley fans to support us against this big opponent. I think it’s a very difficult game for us; they’re a good team, but not a magic team and we have a big chance when we focus on our task, have the right attitude and the right mind set.

“I’m 100% convinced that we have a big chance for a big performance and, when we do that, it’s not easy for any opponent in Barnsley.”

Results at home in recent weeks have been positive since the arrival of Struber and Barnsley have given themselves a fighting chance of retaining their Sky Bet Championship status.

The Reds’ Head Coach feels that a performance similar to that in the second half at Charlton Athletic at the weekend will be enough to secure three points against the Owls.

“It’s normal that, after the game at Charlton, me and my team are frustrated – especially when you look at the game,” he continued. “We had a lot of chances and created a good game, and our big issue is to handle the situations with the set plays.”
