Sami Radlinger reacts to Charlton defeat

2 February 2020

Sami Radlinger expressed his disappointment following Barnsley’s agonising 2-1 Sky Bet Championship defeat at Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

Despite hitting back through Cauley Woodrow, the Reds were unable to overturn first half strikes from Lyle Taylor and Andre Green and now find themselves seven points from safety.

“I think, today, we’re all very disappointed,” said Radlinger. “It was not nice in the dressing room; everyone was down because today we had a good chance to get nearer to the other opponents so I’m very disappointed right now.

“We made too many fouls today and it cost us set plays and, as you know, from the set plays we conceded both goals. The first was very early and shocked us a little bit, and then we’re 2-0 down and it was hard until half-time.”

After the break, Gerhard Struber’s team were by far the better side at the Valley and, having already struck the post in the first half through Aapo Halme, were twice denied by the bar as they searched in vain to salvage something from the contest.

Both Woodrow and Jacob Brown crashed efforts off the woodwork in front of more than 1,000 travelling supporters on what ultimately proved to be a frustrating day in the capital.

“In the second half, we showed a different face from our game and we were very unlucky – three times we hit the post,” continued the Reds’ stopper.

“You could feel that we didn’t give up today and everyone wanted to win or get the point; everyone was fighting in the second half, so that’s why it’s just very disappointing.”
