Collins looks ahead to Birmingham clash

10 February 2020

Brad Collins is targeting three points when Birmingham City visit Oakwell on Tuesday evening in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Reds’ stopper wants his side to build on the weekend’s fine performance in the South Yorkshire Derby and secure a morale-boosting victory over the St Andrews outfit.

“I definitely think we deserved more from the game [against Sheffield Wednesday],” said Collins. “If we took a few more chances in front of goal then we definitely could have won by two or three, but it’s definitely a positive coming off the back of four defeats.

“It’s getting to the time of the season now where we need wins; everyone knows that so it’s important that we build now and get a few wins under our belt.”

Despite being eight points from safety, Collins insists that he and his teammates aren’t panicking about their current situation.

Barnsley have been playing encouraging football of late and the 22-year-old feels that there’s enough belief and quality in the squad to secure the Reds’ second tier status.

“I think you always have to stay calm,” continued Collins. “A lot of things can happen in football; it’s a crazy game so I know the boys believe – I believe – and that’s the main thing in the dressing room that we stick together and get some wins.

“There’s 15 games left and a lot of things can happen; it’s crunch time in the season where we need to get wins now, it’s very important because draws aren’t really good enough. We’re doing our best and need to start picking up wins.”
