Ahead of our South Yorkshire Derby with Sheffield Wednesday, Jacob Brown insists that Barnsley will continue to fight for every point available to retain their Sky Bet Championship status.
The Reds were unfortunate not to leave the Valley with at least a share of the spoils after a fine second half performance against Charlton Athletic, but a similar display this weekend when the Owls visit Oakwell could provide a much-needed victory.
“There’s 40-odd points to play for and we’ve been in this position before, seven points off safety, so we know we can do it,” said Brown. “There’s lots of games coming up and, within a week, you can be in a completely different position. But the main focus is on the next game and getting three points.”
Wednesday head into this fixture having won just one league game since Christmas – a memorable Yorkshire derby triumph at Elland Road.
Those recent results have seen Garry Monk’s side slip out of the play-off places and, with both teams in need of a victory for different reasons, the old derby cliché of ‘form going out of the window’ has perhaps never been more apt.
“It’s a very big game, with it being a local derby and, the way that we’ve been playing, I think it’s a good time for us to have this big game so we can change from the last performances,” continued the Reds’ forward.
“No matter what game it is, it’s vital that we get a win. But it’s going to be a sell-out; there’ll be lots of fans here and the atmosphere will be good so everyone will be up for it.”
