PNE PREVIEW

14 December 2020

Back to Oakwell this Tuesday evening for more Sky Bet Championship action as the Reds welcome Preston North End in a 7.45pm kick-off.

Fresh from the weekend's South Yorkshire derby exploits, Valérien Ismaël's side bounce straight back into another matchday, under the lights of Oakwell in welcoming the Lilywhites this Tuesday night.

Running out deserved winners at Hillsborough on Saturday was perfect for the Frenchman and his young charges as they look to build on the momentum of three wins in their last four outings.

Despite going behind inside four minutes against Sheffield Wednesday, the Reds rallied quickly with goals from Cauley Woodrow (his 8th of the season) and Dominik Frieser to seal a long overdue victory over the Owls

But as the gaffer was soon to point out during his post-match press briefing, there was little time for partying, with yet another fixture on the horizon. And Valérien sat down ahead of the PNE clash, as did defender Mads Andersen to help preview the big game.

The Reds leapfrogged Preston in the Sky Bet Championship standings after the latest action at the weekend. Barnsley's triumph in S6 and North End's surprise 3-0 humbling at Luton Town saw to that.

But the Lilywhites have proven stiff opposition in recent encounters for the Reds, with two big defeats last season in particular.

Beaten 5-1 at Deepdale - a result that saw the departure of Daniel Stendel - and then 3-0 at Oakwell, the Lancashire outfit were good value for their two victories last term and in manager Alex Neil and pretty much the same group of players, North End do have a very stable look about them.

Like the Reds, they'll be hoping to keep picking up victories and see where it takes them this season, having finished four points outside the playoffs in 2019/20.

Amongst that group of players at Deepdale are a couple of familiar faces for Reds fans. Both Ben Pearson and Brad Potts had successful spells here at Oakwell in the not-too-distant past, and will be once again looking to get one over their former employers.

The Reds' last victory in this fixture came back in 2011 when goals from Garry O'Connor and Danny Haynes were enough for a 2-0 win.
