It's a third Yorkshire Derby of the month with the Reds hoping to complete a hat-trick of victories to end the year in style.

This Tuesday the Reds make their shortest journey of the season for a 7.45pm kick-off against newly-promoted Rotherham United.

It's our final fixture of 2020, a year that has brought its challenges to say the least but one in which Barnsley have made real progress.

Boxing Day's 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town saw the Reds climb up to 10th in the Sky Bet Championship table, their fourth win in five outings and Valérien Ismaël will be hoping his in-form side can continue to close the gap on the playoff places.

Whilst another success was recorded at Oakwell at the weekend, we once again had to come from behind to do so, with Polish defender Michal Helik popping up with a 94th minute winner.

That was victory number nine of the season, all coming since the arrival of Ismaël who is making an unbelievable impact at Oakwell.

No Reds boss at this level has had a better start to their career on Grove Street. And if the Reds earn at least a point tomorrow evening, it will be the best December points-haul in the club's history.

The Reds have won two of their last three road trips; a last-gasp triumph on a Tuesday night in Birmingham which kicked off the month and more recently, another 2-1 victory in South Yorkshire, beating the Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Ahead of the Millers clash both Valérien and his goalkeeper Jack Walton spoke with the assembled media to preview the fixture and both of their pre-match press conference interviews can be watched by clicking the linked videos below.

Tuesday night's hosts haven't played a fixture for nearly two weeks with their Boxing Day clash with Middlesbrough postponed due to a number of players testing positive for the coronavirus.

There were question marks over our fixture initially but the Reds have prepared for another tough clash regardless of external factors.

Rotherham did win in their last fixture at the New York Stadium. That was a 2-0 victory over Bristol City, but in general it's been a testing return to the second tier for Paul Warne's outfit.

The Millers are unbeaten in their Yorkshire derbies thus far though, with a 3-0 thumping of Wednesday and a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield, both on home soil which is where they've picked up the majority of their points.

Currently sat in 21st, just one spot above the relegation zone on 16 points, Rotherham have lost four of the last five games going into this one.

It's a positive fixture for the Reds historically speaking, edging the meetings with 21 wins to United's 17.

The last time we met was three years ago when an Adam Armstrong goal at the New York Stadium sealed a 1-0 victory, in a game that Matty James made his Reds debut in. That completed a league double having already hammered the Millers 4-0 at Oakwell.

The Reds have won 10 of the last 14 meetings and haven't lost against Rotherham since a 1-0 defeat in October of 1982.
