VALÉRIEN ISMAËL PRE-WYCOMBE

8 December 2020

Ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash with Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday evening, Valérien Ismaël says he is looking for the Reds to bounce back from the defeat against Bournemouth.

Our Head Coach is anticipating a completely different encounter against the Chairboys and believes Barnsley will have to work hard to ensure they make the most of their time on the ball.

“I think we will have more possession, for sure,” insisted Ismaël. “We have to play against a more defensive squad, which is very organised and they believe in their principles.

“Set-pieces will be a big part and second balls will be the main focus for this game, but the most important thing is what happens when we have the ball; this is what we have to work on and see where we can hurt the opponent.

“We have to keep the intensity high and stay on this level and this is what I want to see in this game, to take the fight and get the points.”

In light of recent events in the fight against racism, Barnsley Football Club will continue in their pledge to make football a sport for people of all backgrounds and beliefs.

It’s an important and sensitive subject, and Ismaël feels football has a responsibility to continue addressing the issue.

“Racism is a big topic in this world and that’s why we have to fight against it, take a position and not accept this,” he asserted.

“When you have children, you have to explain why you do this and to be proud and accept football has the possibility to send a message all over the world. We have this responsibility to give our message.”
