VICTOR ADEBOYEJO PRE-BOURNEMOUTH

3 December 2020

Ahead of our Sky Bet Championship clash with Bournemouth on Friday evening, Victor Adeboyejo says he is thrilled to be featuring regularly for the Reds.

The powerful striker, who made his first league start of the season in our 2-1 victory at Birmingham City on Tuesday, has impressed under new Head Coach, Valérien Ismaël, and is eager to continue showing his abilities.

“I can’t really play it down too much; the gaffer has come in and given me a chance straight away,” began Adeboyejo. “He’s highlighted my qualities and explained to me where I need to get better and given me the freedom and confidence to go out there and express myself to show what I can do, and I can only be grateful for the opportunity so far.

“But I’m obviously looking for more; I’m looking to try and stake my claim in the team and show what I can do, too.”

The Cherries arrive at Oakwell sitting second in the table, looking for an immediate return to the Premier League following their relegation last term.

But Barnsley have shown their qualities on numerous occasions this campaign and put Watford to the sword in Ismaël’s second game at the helm at the end of October.

The Reds are in decent form, with five wins from the last eight outings, but Adeboyejo insists that he and his teammates aren’t getting too carried away just yet.

“If you look at Bournemouth’s squad, there’s quality everywhere,” continued the 22-year-old. “The quality, at times, in the league is very high and we’ve got to try and combat that through our workrate, togetherness and working as a team. As long as we focus and stick to the game plan we’ll be just fine.

“We’re just taking it game by game and focusing on the next game – every game is as important as the next. Our focus is on trying to get as many three points as possible and, hopefully, come the end of the season, we’ll see what happens.”
