CLARKE ODUOR WINS JULY GOAL OF THE MONTH

11 August 2020

“It could have gone in off anything – it doesn’t matter, as long as it went in.”

Those are the words of our July Goal of the Month winner, Clarke Oduor, who was speaking after hearing about his award, as voted for by Reds’ supporters.

His last gasp strike at Brentford on the final day ensured Barnsley secured their Sky Bet Championship status, drawing to a close a breathless and dramatic campaign.

“I’d like to say thank you to everyone who voted,” continued Oduor. “For it to be my first goal as well, it’s a massive thing and I still watch it now. I just want to say thank you because it’s a big thing for me and I’ll treasure it.

“I’d love to kick on next season now, but so does the whole team because we don’t want to be in that situation again and I don’t think we will be.”

Asked if he remembers much about the game itself, he admits it is a bit of a blur. The Reds, as had been the case for large parts of the season, were the better team against heavily fancied opposition, but Gerhard Struber’s side defied the odds once more.

One moment, in particular, that does stick out for him, however, is Callum Style’s goal. The pair share a close bond at Oakwell and both notched their first senior career goals on an incredible evening in west London.

“Callum’s goal will stick in my mind; he’s one of my close mates, and when that went in, I was absolutely buzzing for him,” insisted Oduor. “It was great to share that moment with him.

“It was always coming; he needed an opportunity. He’s a great player and, when he got his chance he delivered.”

Everyone at Oakwell would like to congratulate Clarke on this magnificent achievement.
