Wolfe Signs New Deal

5 August 2020

Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce that Matty Wolfe has signed a new two-year contract.

The young midfielder made his first team debut in the dramatic 1-0 victory at home to Nottingham Forest last month, coming from the bench midway through the second half.

He put in an assured performance under immense pressure and looked comfortable in possession as he helped the Reds to three crucial points against Sabri Lamouchi’s play-off hopefuls.

Reds Chief Executive Officer, Dane Murphy said:

We are fully aware of the effort that Matty puts in to his game both on and off the pitch and naturally, we were delighted to see him make his debut.

For club and fan alike, it’s poignant when a local player graduates through an academy in to a first team set-up. Alongside the likes of Jacob Brown, Romal Palmer and Jack Walton, Matty is  a shining light for those currently developing at Oakwell.

“We look forward to watching his continued development, under Gerhard Struber’s stewardship.”

At 20-years-old, Wolfe is one of eight academy produced players to have featured in first team matchday squads during the 2019/20 season and this new deal will see him remain at Barnsley until at least 2022.

Congratulations, Matty, from everyone at Oakwell!
