FIRST INTERVIEW WITH DOMINIK FRIESER

20 August 2020

New signing Dominik Frieser says he is aiming to help Barnsley secure plenty of points in the upcoming 20/21 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

The 26-year-old Austrian arrived midway through the Reds’ pre-season training camp at St George’s Park and linked up with his new teammates on Thursday afternoon.

There were, however, a few familiar faces already in the dressing room for our latest addition, who had already played alongside Michael Sollbauer, while also previously facing Marcel Ritzmaier and Patrick Schmidt.

“I’m very happy to sign for Barnsley,” insisted Frieser. “It was a dream for me to play in England and now the dream is true. I hope to help Barnsley win a lot of matches.

“I played with Sole in Wolfsberger and against Pipo and Ritzy in Austria, and I played against the coach as well. It’s nice to see the guys; I’m very happy.

“This is easier to have teammates who speak your language to help you. It’s very good to be the fourth or fifth Austrian here.”

Frieser joins us from LASK, who competed in last season’s Europa League after securing a second place finish in the Austrian Bundesliga.

His versatility could prove to be a key attribute for Gerhard Struber, who may choose to utilise him in a number of different positions over the course of the campaign.

“Last season in Austria was really hard. I made 48 games, we played in the European league and got to the last-16 and played against Manchester United,” continued Frieser.

“At LASK I played as right and left winger and as striker, and at Wolfsberger I played as right or left defender when we played as five defenders. I also play in the number 10, two or three years ago.”

Willkommen, Dominik!
