Oakwell Turns Blue For NHS

23 April 2020

Clubs across South Yorkshire have put rivalries aside and come together to show their support and appreciation for the NHS.

During this difficult time, a round of applause has taken place every Thursday at 8pm to support and thank doctors, nurses and other NHS staff for their hard work during the Coronavirus pandemic.

This week, the Reds have taken things one step further by joining a local movement, coordinated by PA Entertainments, to light Oakwell blue.

Chief Executive Officer, Dane Murphy, said that it was hoped that the display would demonstrate the Club’s continued appreciation for all NHS staff, particularly those performing heroics at Barnsley Hospital.

He said: “I can’t adequately express my gratitude toward the work of the NHS and key workers. Their continuance to perform under the most difficult of circumstances, specifically in our local area, will never be forgotten.

Our display is a visual reminder that everyone involved with Barnsley FC is thinking of, thanking, and fully supporting the NHS for all that they have done and continue to do.”

Barnsley FC will also join Doncaster Rovers, Rotherham United, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday in donating a unique signed and printed shirt, that will be auctioned in honour of NHS charities once football returns.

Please continue to stay home, save lives and protect the NHS.
