Barnsley Football Club are saddened to learn of the passing of former defender John Collins.
Spending four years at Oakwell between 1976 and 1980, John Collins was a popular full-back and formed part of the 1978/79 promotion squad under Allan Clarke as the Reds' resurgence began.
Collins (pictured below, back row second from the right) was an ever-present during that memorable campaign, playing at right-back despite being predominantly left-footed.
He would make just short of 150 appearances whilst at Oakwell, with the Welshman having already represented the likes of Halifax, Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur where he began his career.
The thoughts of all at Barnsley FC are with John's nearest and dearest and we ask on their behalf for privacy during this difficult time.
