Young full-back wants to maintain unbeaten run

Barnsley U23s host Wigan Athletic at Oakwell in the Professional Development League on Friday afternoon.

The young Reds have enjoyed a productive start to the campaign with three wins out of their first five games, and eased to a 3-1 victory in their last outing against Colchester United.

Jordan Barnett is one of six different scorers for our U23s this season and he believes that his side can continue their fine run of form.

“I think we can make it three wins in a row,” said Barnett. “Training has been positive and we’re working on staying unbeaten for the rest of the season.

“Hopefully we can get the win on Friday and that will give us a boost going into the next game against Nottingham Forest. If we win that as well, it’ll be a good confidence boost for the rest of the team.”

Nick Chadwick’s side are new to the league this season after being awarded Category 2 status and have registered two wins in three fixtures so far.

Like Barnsley, the Latics were put to the sword by Bristol City but have also put in impressive performances against Colchester and Charlton Athletic.

“We’ve watched a couple of videos of them and they look alright,” continued Barnett. “They had a good win on Monday and we’re not treating them as a bad team. Every game is a hard game and that’s how we’re going to approach it.

“It’s a different challenge because we’ve never seen them play in this league before, but we’ll see what they can do and hopefully get three points.”

Barnsley are unbeaten on home soil since October – a fantastic run that stretches ten games in the league.

Martin Devaney’s side are also in fine form on Oakwell, having claimed 2-0 and 3-0 wins against Bristol City and Crystal Palace in their last two outings on the main pitch.

“We’ve not lost at home for nearly a year and hopefully it will stay like that for a long time,” insisted the Reds’ full-back.

“These wins give us a lot of confidence and we want to carry on winning – no one ever wants to lose. It’s all about winning and development.”
