Cauley Woodrow’s sensational volley against Charlton Athletic has been voted as Barnsley’s Goal of the Month for August.
The Reds’ striker expertly controlled the ball after Cameron McGeehan’s shot had been blocked, before firing an unstoppable strike into the top corner to give Daniel Stendel’s side a deserved lead.
With over 90% of the votes, Woodrow saw off competition from Luke Thomas, Conor Chaplin, Elliot Simoes and Mallik Wilks to win the award.
“I’m very pleased; it’s obviously nice to win any award, especially after scoring a good goal,” said Woodrow.
“It all happened very quickly, but I knew that the ball was a little bit behind me and that I’d have to get a touch in front of me to shoot. I didn’t have a lot of time to think, but my first touch was good and, thankfully, it went in the top corner.
“It’s definitely up there with the best I’ve scored – I haven’t hit many better than that, to be honest, and, as soon as it left my foot, I knew it was going in.”
Well done, Cauley!
