U18s | PREVIEW: Barnsley Vs Crewe Alexandra

Young Reds at home ahead of first team fixture on Saturday

17 October 2019

Barnsley U18s welcome Crewe Alexandra to the Oakwell Training Ground on Saturday morning as they look to make it four consecutive wins.

The Professional Development league clash takes place ahead of our first team’s Sky Bet Championship game with Swansea City, so you can make a day of it at Oakwell by also enjoying a variety of entertainment at our Fan Zone in between the two fixtures.

Our U18s head into this encounter on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win at Hull City last weekend, with captain Will Calligan scoring the only goal midway through the first half.

With four clean sheets in eight outings, Tom Harban’s side boast the best defensive record in the league but will be going up against the second most potent attack this weekend.

Crewe have notched 17 goals in nine games – bettered only by leaders Wigan Athletic, who have struck 28 times in 10 matches so far.

However, in Aiden Marsh and Jack Sherlock, the Reds have strike partnership in fine form and they will be looking to add to the eight goals scored between them this campaign.

Barnsley did the double over Alex last season, registering an emphatic 7-1 win on home soil before securing a narrow 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture.

Another three points for the young Reds on Saturday could be enough to see them climb to second, providing Nottingham Forest fail to beat Sheffield United.

You can cheer our U18s on by attending the game for FREE at the Oakwell Training Ground on Saturday morning, kick-off at 11am.

Alternatively, you can follow updates on our official Academy Twitter account: @AcademyBFC.

Our Fan Zone opens in the East Stand at 12pm and will be hosting live music until kick-off at 3pm.

Any supporters wishing to attend our U18s fixture are politely reminded not to park on Grove Street, but to park in the CK Beckett South Stand Car Park.
