Caretaker Head Coach delighted with Reds' mentality

Adam Murray believes that the Reds have shown enough character in the past two games to suggest that they can secure Sky Bet Championship safety this season.

Barnsley have earned two credible draws against high-flying Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion – games where his side have been relatively unfancied heading into the encounters.

However, a pair of gritty and determined performances have left Reds supporters reason to be optimistic ahead of this weekend’s Yorkshire derby at Huddersfield Town.

“The mentality that the players have shown, in tough situations, has been really pleasing,” commended Murray. “We faced a little bit of a setback on Saturday going a goal down and then the comeback from West Brom the other night, but the mentality of the players to react positively, still stay on the front foot and play with confidence is really pleasing.”

The Terriers head into Saturday’s clash on the back of a 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening.

Victory for the Reds will see them leapfrog Huddersfield, who are still adapting to life back in the second tier following their relegation from the Premier League.

Murray insists that Barnsley are solely focussed on the task at hand this weekend in order to pick up three valuable points.

“We went to the game last night and watched them; I think they’re a typical Danny Cowley team – very organised, hard-working and have a way of playing,” continued the Reds’ caretaker Head Coach.

“I’ve watched every team in this league five or six times now and every opponent has their own strengths that you think can hurt you and, at the same time, every opponent has got weaknesses that we can take advantage of.

“We’ve had a close look at Huddersfield and we know how we’re going to go about the game, but it’s the Championship – every game is a tough challenge and it’s important that we focus on ourselves.”
