Mowatt: "We've been working hard in training."

Midfielder eager for Reds to pick up three points on Saturday

Alex Mowatt insists Barnsley are looking to react from the defeat at Preston North End a fortnight ago.

The Reds host Swansea City at Oakwell in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon and are looking to pick up three valuable points to climb out of the drop zone.

“We want to get back to winning games and not conceding five, like at Preston,” said Mowatt. “We want to play well, give our best and play at 100% to make sure we win games.

“Going in at half-time 1-1, I don’t think we played well, but we went behind again and I think everyone was feeling sorry for themselves, and you can’t be like that on a football pitch otherwise it turns out to be how it was at Preston.

“We’re the ones out there and we’ve got to learn from these things. We can let that happen and concede five goals in a game.”

The Swans head to South Yorkshire sitting fourth in the table but come into the game on the back of a surprise 2-1 defeat at home to Stoke City before the international break.

Steve Cooper’s side are unbeaten on their travels this season and will prove to be a tough opposition for Barnsley this weekend.

However, Mowatt insists that the Reds have been working hard on the training ground to ensure they can give themselves the best possible chance of securing a result.

“Swansea are really good at what they do and their start to the season shows that, but we know what we’re going to come up against at the weekend,” continued the 24-year-old.

“Intensity in training has been hard and it’s been fun as well. We’ve been working on a few things out of possession and our shape, as well, so hopefully on Saturday we can do it on the pitch as well.

“I don’t think any game is a pressure-free match – especially with the position we’re in at the moment. So we need to be picking up points soon.”
