Following Barnsley's defeat against local rivals Huddersfield in the Sky Bet Championship at the weekend, goalscorer Jacob Brown gave us his immediate reaction.
Reds wide-man Jacob Brown might have got off the mark for the 2019/20 season with his second half strike at Huddersfield Town at the weekend, but he admitted the moment was bittersweet as the Reds went down 2-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium.
He told us: “It was obviously a great feeling to get my first goal in the Championship. It’s taken a while to get my first of the season and it’s a shame that we didn’t push on to then get back in the game.
“At the end of the day we’ve failed to win or even get a draw so I can’t be happy even though I did get off the mark.”
It was a disappointing afternoon in West Yorkshire for Barnsley on Saturday. Despite looking the better side during the opening stages, the Reds were caught napping by their hosts and from then on it was a real struggle to get something out of their third game in a week.
“It wasn’t good enough.” Brown stated. “We started off alright first 20 minutes or so but then seemed to go into our shells and allowed them onto us.
“They’ve scored with their first real attack and the defending wasn’t good enough. It wasn’t good for either of their goals in fairness.
“Then we don’t take our chances at the other end and that sums up it up really. It wasn’t a good performance.”
After the points gained against Swansea City and West Brom, Brown reckons the squad went into the Terriers fixture with renewed confidence but recognises that after another game without victory, the players must remain focused and continue to work hard in training as the games keep on coming in the Sky Bet Championship.
“We went into the game with a lot of confidence after the two previous performances so it wasn’t like we had an excuse really.
“It’s about picking ourselves up now, getting straight back at it on the training ground and preparing well for another big game on Friday night against Bristol City.”
