Defender returns to Oakwell this weekend when we face Hull City.
We’re delighted to be able to welcome former captain Angus MacDonald back to Oakwell this weekend as the club’s special guest. ‘Goose’, as he is affectionately known to many, will be making an emotional return as he watches his current side Hull City take on the Reds.
In September 2019, Angus was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. The 27-year-old has spoken at length with BE RED ahead of the match to tell us where he is at in his recovery, as well as launching the ‘Angus MacDonald Foundation’ in order to try and help others who are suffering with the illness.
The former Reds defender told us about his special relationship with Barnsley Football Club and its supporters, stating that messages received from both Reds fans and the wider footballing community have kept him positive during tough times.
“It’s two clubs close to my heart this weekend." MacDonald explained. "One that I’m at right now and of course Barnsley who I really enjoyed playing for. I came from non-league and they just took to me straight away and I will always be thankful for that.
“It has been a tough few months for me but I’m getting better, fingers crossed and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at Oakwell on Saturday.”
You can read the full interview with Angus in BE RED this weekend, as we welcome back the much-loved former captain and we are sure everyone inside Oakwell will give him the welcome he deserves, along with all of our best wishes.
